I’ve had Vonage for about three months now. I love it. Occasionally I will have minor call quality issues, but usually it’s great.
Although they offer a ton of extra services, I really only use email delivery of voicemail. Why forward your phone calls to your mobile phone if you can simply let someone leave a message and have it delivered to your email inbox? I have set up a filter on my gmail account to automatically tag all of my voicemail emails. Once I get a voicemail, I can download it and listen on my computer or on my Blackberry. Using this approach, I can appear to be at home checking voicemail and really be anywhere in the world! It’s particularly great for getting a call from work on your home phone when you call in “sick” because you decided to spend an extra day in Vegas sitting poolside at Wet Republic.
Because I use my Blackberry 90% of the time, I only needed the 500 minute plan. Although the stated price is just $17.99, when taxes and fees are added, I get billed $23.85 per month.
There are a whole slew of other features available through Vonage – check them out on their website. I can’t see why anyone would use nearly any of them.
My one gripe is that it is difficult to set up more than one phone on the Vonage system. Whenever I want to send a fax, I must unplug my phone and plug in my fax into the Vonage box.
